Read to Succeed

At Hall Green Infant School, we are passionate about ensuring that all children become confident, enthusiastic readers and writers. We aim to nurture a lifelong love of reading, writing and spelling through consistent, high-quality phonics teaching.

We strongly believe that systematic synthetic phonics provides children with the essential foundations they need to become successful readers and writers. Phonics is led by a designated Phonics Lead, and all staff receive high-quality training to ensure they are confident and knowledgeable practitioners.

Phonics teaching is rigorous, consistent and carefully structured. Lessons are delivered by trained staff who ensure that children have frequent opportunities to practice and apply their phonics knowledge. Children are supported to keep up with the expected pace of learning, with additional practice and intervention provided promptly for those who need it.
