Healthy Mind

The emotional wellbeing of our children is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health allows children and young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.

At Hall Green Infants 'Healthy Mind' is one of our key aspirations. We teach children a range of strategies to support this area and develop healthy wellbeing strategies.

Some tips on promoting positive mental health in children include:

  1. Give your child unconditional love.
  2. Nurture confidence and self-esteem.
  3. Provide guidance and discipline.
  4. Ensure surroundings are safe and secure.
  5. Encourage play opportunities with other children.
  6. Seek out support from school and your community.
  7. Teach your child resiliency.

As parents, just as you can teach yourself to become more resilient, you can also help your child learn and develop resiliency by:

  • Accepting that change is a part of living.
  • Making connections.
  • Avoid seeing bad situations as catastrophes.
  • Taking decisive actions.
  • Working toward goals.
  • Nurturing a positive self-view.
  • Maintaining a hopeful outlook.
  • Good self-care.
  • Keeping things in perspective

SLEEP

Good sleep is important for your child's physical and mental wellbeing.

A relaxing bedtime routine is one important way to help your child get a good night's sleep.

The NHS suggests the following hours of sleep are needed for children -

4 years

  • night-time: 11 hours 30 minutes

5 years

  • night-time: 11 hours

6 years

  • night-time: 10 hours 45 minutes

7 years

  • night-time: 10 hours 30 minutes
