We read extracts from the book ‘The Funny Life of Pets’, and the children completed various tasks related to the text. The text is based on made up animals that are unique. The children drew different parts of an animal to create a new one. After that, they created a fact file about their animal.

The children read a book called ‘A Duck Called Brian’ written and illustrated by Al Murphy. They then became illustrators and recreated the main character Brian.

Joshua Seigal, ‘The Edible Bedroom’

Joshua Seigal wrote the poem, ‘The Edible Bedroom’.

The children used this idea as a model to write their own version of the poem.

Carson Ellis, ‘In the Half Room’

Carson Ellis is an American author who wrote a book about a room which is full of half things. A half chair, a half cat, even half shoes; all just as nice and weird and friendly as whole things.

Using water colour paint, the children painted one half of their face from memory. Then they used a mirror to paint the other half of their face.

Hiba Noor Khan

Hiba Noor Khan presented her book called ‘The Little War Cat’ It is about a man who rescues animals from the war in Syria. She was inspired to write this book because of a real-life person who saved animals in Aleppo.

Rain Before Rainbows by Smriti Halls

The children read the story ‘Rain Before Rainbows’, which is about the adventures of a little girl who travels across the world. They used their inference skills to decide what the girl is feeling in each part of the story.

In groups, the children wrote the little girls’ thoughts and feelings at each stage of her adventure.

Eid Ul Edha Assembly

The Imam from Birmingham City Mosque came in to school today to talk to the children about Eid.
