Summer 1

World Water Day 2026

We celebrated World Water Day by learning about the importance of protecting and conserving our precious water resources. We discussed why water is essential for life and explored simple ways we can all help save water in our daily lives. The children also brought in £1 each to contribute towards funding the construction of a water pump in a developing country, helping to provide access to clean water for communities in need.

Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's Birthday!

We had the privilege of celebrating the legendary Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday—a truly remarkable occasion! The timing was perfect, as it coincided with our school Science Day celebrations.

The children came to school dressed as something related to science, showcasing their enthusiasm and creativity. They also made thoughtful birthday cards to honour Sir David Attenborough and his incredible contributions to science and the natural world.

As part of our celebrations, the children took part in a science competition with the theme of Childhood. I was incredibly impressed by every entry. The creativity, imagination, and hard work that went into producing the posters were outstanding, making it very difficult to choose the winners. Well done to everyone who participated!

National Space Centre!

After completing our exciting History topic on significant people, Year 1 had the privilege of visiting the National Space Centre to deepen their understanding of the remarkable individuals who have shaped history through space exploration.

During our visit, we were thrilled to see the spacesuit worn by an Apollo 11 astronaut, as well as a rocket and a range of fascinating space artefacts. The children learned many amazing facts and enjoyed exploring the interactive exhibits.

One of the highlights of the day was our visit to the planetarium, where we discovered more about astronauts, their missions, and how they live and survive in space. The presentation was both engaging and inspiring, bringing our classroom learning to life.

The children thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the trip, showed great enthusiasm throughout the day, and made the most of this fantastic learning experience.
