Number Day
The STEM leaders arranged Number Day and they took charge in their classroom sharing a number game or activity.
Science Week 2024-2025
British Science Week is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths which takes place each March. The theme for 2025 was ‘Change and adapt’.
Changing and adapting plays a big part in science and you can find examples in every area of STEM. Cities, towns and other areas where people live change and adapt as the world’s population grows, plants and animals change and adapt to their surroundings to survive. Technology has changed exponentially and adapted to our new, busier lives. Our behaviours change too as we need to change how we consume the world’s resources to offset the worst effects of the climate crisis, and adapt our lifestyles to reduce our impact through recycling or reducing waste.
When exploring this theme, we can also consider how attitudes to STEM and the people who do it have changed and adapted. Perceptions of scientists are changing and we need to keep adapting our thinking until we can no longer picture a ‘stereotypical scientist’ as anyone can be a scientist.
Dress as Science
The children were challenged with dressing as science. We had some grit ideas and the children looked fabulous.
Science Competition
The children were challenged to make a poster based on the theme of ‘Adapt and Change’. They were given some questions to explore. Some examples are what happens as day changes into night and how do we adapt to this? Technology is changing all the time. What things do we have today that weren’t around when grown-ups were children? How does our weather change during the different seasons? What does this mean for plants, trees and animals? Change and adaptation in our world, and beyond.
We had some great entries and the STEM leaders had the responsibility of choosing the winner in each class.
Reception’s STEM Workshop
Parents attended a ‘play and learn session’ with a focus on STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This was an opportunity to spend some time with their child in their classroom, sharing in their learning and exploring a range of activities and games.
