Today we presented our class Assembly to our parents and carers. We did a fabulous job at learning our lines and saying them in a ‘loud and proud’ voice. Our assembly was about International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on the 8th March. We spoke about significant women who are inspiring to us, as well as thanking women in our everyday lives such as our mums, sisters and grandmas. International Women’s Day asks for everyone to make sure boys and girls are treated fairly. It doesn’t matter if you are a girl or a boy, if we work hard at something we can achieve it!
On Yellow Day we raised money for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation. We raise awareness for this charity every year to remember a pupil called Imaan who came to our school. We decorated bee ornaments to go on Imaan’s memorial tree.
On World Book Day we dressed up as our favourite book characters. We started the day with an assembly where the best dressed won trophies. Our best dressed was 'Marry Poppins' and 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'. We then had a drop everything and read (DEAR) session. Year 1 read the book ‘The Big Book of Beasts’. We made our own posters about big beasts with facts we learnt from the book. In the afternoon we did lots of book day activities such as; design a book cover, decorate bookmarks and write book reviews.
Today we wore clothes with numbers on them to celebrate Number Day. We spent the afternoon doing number-based activities. We played snakes and ladders, designed maths t-shirts, practiced our doubles and number bonds, played with the number sentence beach ball and played number games on Purple Mash. Finally, we guessed how many sweets were in a jar, the closest guess won! The winner took the sweets home as a prize. What a great Number Day!
On Friday we went to our 'Sparkle and Shine' sale and bought sparkly products to raise money for charity.
Today we made friendship bracelets for our 'Sparkle and Shine' sale on Friday. The money we raise from the sale will go to Young Minds charity to support the mental wellbeing of young people.
On Tuesday, we discussed the importance of saying thank you and being grateful. We made lovely thank you bunting to display in our classrooms and decorated thank you cards to give to someone we are grateful for.
On Monday, we read the book ‘The Colour Monster’ and made our own colour monsters. Mindfulness is noticing what is happening right now and taking notice of how your body feels and what you see, smell and taste. We feel a range of big emotions everyday- every feeling is okay.
Look at this amazing bird feeder that one of our eco warriors made! It is so creative and thoughtful. We are proud of the effort you put into this project, great job.
We have had a great aspirations day! School council presented a very inspiring assembly, we are so proud of our school councilors. We also got to meet a pharmacist and a dentist, who told us all about their jobs. Remember to believe in yourself and follow your dreams.
In history we have been learning about significant people from the past, specifically space explorers. It was fantastic to visit the National Space Center to learn all about outer space and the astronauts who visit it. We enjoyed the interactive exhibitions and we thought the planetarium was great!
It was fantastic to discuss our aspirations with parents/carers. We set short-term and long-term goals for ourselves. We believe in ourselves and follow our dreams! Thank you for attending.
