Week 07.09.20

This week our focus is on settling into school, routines and completing assessments. The children will be getting used to the new school day and we will be focusing on reading, writing and maths.

If you are at home this week please look at the ideas below to support home learning.

Maths - we will be doing place value this week. This will include:

  • counting and grouping numbers
  • recognising the value of a number
  • reading and writing numbers to 100

Reading - This week we are going to be looking at whole class reading and answering simple retrival questions as a class. We will be carrying our phonics and reading checks with the children so that we know how to best support them this year.

Ideas for reading this week could be:

  • reading a book and answering questions together
  • making predictions about books or photographs
  • reading leaflets or newspapers around the house
  • using my rising stars to read books and answer questions

Writing - Children will be planning and writing about their first week in school this week. They will be thinking about how things are different this year and what they like or are worried about in their new class. Spend some time talking about this and consider the following questions with your child as a plan before they write. It could be a letter to their new teacher!

  • what is your new classroom and building like?
  • what have you enjoyed so far?
  • are there any things that are worrying you?
  • how is school different now compared to last year?
  • what are you hoping to achieve this year?

We are also going to be focusing on keeping fit and healthy with lots of PE and brain breaks so please try and encourage your child to keep active.

We will be talking about our learning dinosaurs and values for this half term so children could make posters of the dinosaurs and talk about how they are going to achieve the school values!
