At Hall Green Infant & Nursery School, we provide opportunities to develop confidence in speaking and listening because we recognise language is an integral part of learning and oral language in particular has a key role in our normal classroom teaching and learning. Right from the beginning of school we believe our children have the right to be actively involved in their own learning and through all shared and guided work children will be prompted to engage, respond and interact.
At the moment socialising and communicating with peers and other adults is really difficult and we don’t want our children to miss out on developing their speech and vocabulary skills. Questioning, presenting, clarifying ideas and working collaboratively are just some of the ways we encourage speaking and listening in our school. Below you will find some activities and suggestions to support your child with speaking and listening at home.
