At Hall Green Infant school we value reading as a key life skill that underpins everything we do, and are dedicated to enabling our pupils to become lifelong readers with a love of reading. We believe reading is fundamental for academic success and so encompass this into all areas of our curriculum. These values remain at the forefront of our beliefs even during these difficult times. We want our children to become articulate and literate individuals with a strong love of reading and the will to read.
In order to continue to support children in their reading at home we are using live sessions, videos, online reading schemes and much more in order to support our children's reading and phonics.
Reading is timetabled daily in all year groups and it is vitally important that you use this time to read with your child using the online reading schemes, reading books that were sent home or some of the other activities suggested in the weekly folders.
Each class holds daily storytime for their class to enjoy. This is done over Teams where their teacher will read and discuss a book each day.
Reception Storytime - 2.50-3.00pm
Year 1 Storytime - 3.00-3.10pm
Year 2 Storytime - 3.10-3.20pm
Year 1 and 2 also hold daily guided reading sessions each day. this is a chance for children to read and share a book with their teacher and answer comprehension sessions.

Year 2 Guided reading sessions are 1.15 – 1.35pm and 1.40 – 2.00pm
