Over the next 2 days children will add numbers within 20 using their knowledge of number bonds. It is important that children work practically using ten frames and/or number lines to help them see how number bonds to 10 can help them calculate. Eventually They will move towards using this as a mental strategy.

Children to roll a dice and put that many counters on the first tens frame. Roll the dice again and put that many counters on the second tens frame. Write down the number sentence For example 6 + 5 = 11. Move the counters on the second tens frame to make the total 10 and see 6 + 5 = 11 is the same as 10 + 1 =1
