Respect and Celebrate Difference
At HGIS one of our core aspirations is to respect and celebrate our differences. As a school we celebrate all cultures and communities. We are inclusive and want to ensure our children look at the world through inclusive eyes without bias or prejudice.
We want all our children to be treated fairly and to treat others the same. The ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement is in current news and children will be aware of it. The CBBC videos below and the BCC resources discuss the issue in a child friendly way and give you materials that you can work through with your child.
The videos and resources are a great opportunity for us to share and discuss what peaceful protest is, what racisims can look like and how we can bring change. We can discuss ‘Democracy’ which is one of our British values. We can discuss what racism is, why people are protesting and the changes they want to achieve.
Children should have some time to reflect on how this might change our world and what they hope for the future of where they live.
