Learning activities:

Allan Ahlberg loved to rewrite traditional tales/stories. Which story do you think he is rewriting here?

What do you notice about the story (it’s retold backwards, from the end to the beginning).

Do you remember what ‘previously’ mean? (it refers to events which happened before, synonyms are prior to, before ).

What is different in Allan Ahlberg’s version (Jack was playing football with his friends and previously, he tumbled down the hill whilst arguing with his sister…).

Go through the events of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, as rewritten by Allan Ahlberg:

Running with the hen-stole the hen and climbed down the beanstalk, running out of the giant’s house-hiding in the giant shoe-climbing up the beanstalk-sold the cow for magic beans-mum sent him to sell the cow because they were poor-playing football-arguing with his sister and tumbling down the hill.

Independent written task: design a story map and write words/captions/sentences for each sequence of  ‘Jack and the Beanstalk' story, ordering the events in their natural order.
