Read the book again but this time focus on the character Lubna. Stop the story at relevant parts that provide insight into the character Lubna. Examples of questioning and expected answers. 

 

Why do you think Lubna drew a smiley face on the pebble?

She was lonely and had no friends.

 

Why did she grasp her dads hand?

She was afraid.

 

Lubna gave Amir the pebble whe she found out she was leaving the camp. Why did she give Amir the pebble?

She did not want Amir to feel lonely so this shows she is caring.

 

Activity – Print the sheet suitable for your child’s ability.

HA – Draw a picture of Lubna and write sentences about all the things you have learnt about the character.

For example – Lubna is brave. She is a good friend and she cares for Amir. Lubna is kind because she gave Amir the pebble. She is sometimes scared and gets a cuddle from her Dad. She does not like war. She is a refugee.

MA - Draw a picture of Lubna and write words and phrases about all the things you have learnt about the character. For example, kind scared brave loves her dad, a good friend, lonely. 

LA - Draw a picture of Lubna and label the picture with all things you have learnt about the character. For example, brave kind scared sweet sharing. Parents/guardians can write down what your child says but encourage sounding out to spell words.
