The Head teacher Mrs Wood and Deputy Head Mrs Alyas have had conversations this week with some parents about concerns regarding unsafe parking on Petersfield Road. Most significantly, a car has been seen reversing and nearly hitting a child.
The school office was also approached recently by a Birmingham City Council driver because his lorry was blocked by a parent parking in the middle of the road. Additionally, we have had complaints from residents of the flats opposite school about their drive being blocked.
We have approached the community police for support and advice, and P.C.S.O. Thomas has visited the school this week to chat with parents and observe parking and dropping off of pupils.
P.C.S.O.Thomas has advised us that there is a No stopping Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. parking sign on the school side of Petersfield Road. This means that there should be no parking on the school side of Petersfield Road during these times.
P.C.S.O. Thomas also reminded us that there is a No Waiting, 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 2:45-4:00 p.m. sign on the side of the road near the flats. This means that a car can drop off during these times but not wait.
We would like to remind parents that there is parking available at the Bull’s Head Public House if there is no space to drop off on the opposite side of Petersfield Road to the school.
The school is also contacting B.C.C. Highways Department to enlist support for safe parking in Petersfield Road. B.C.C. Highways are able to fine drivers who ignore the road signage.
As a school community we need to prioritise the safeguarding of our children from any risks due to unsafe parking. We are very sympathetic to the tight time schedules of many of our parents, and their consequent need to drive their children to school. However we request for the sake of our children's safety that everyone parks with the utmost care. Thank you very much for your ongoing co-operation and support.
